Does everyone need a fishing license?

Yes. Purchase your SD fishing license from the South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks department, which allows you to purchase your fishing license online.

 

What does Western Walleyes provide during the fishing guide experience?

We are committed to making your fishing guide experience pleasant, relaxing and memorable. Western Wallies provides the boat, gas, oil, rods, reels, tackle, bait, life jackets, ice, water and more. 

What do anglers (people who fish) need to bring?

Fishing license, appropriate clothes and shoes, rain gear, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, lunch, and beverages.

How big is the boat?

The boat is 20ft+ and comfortable accommodates up to 4 people. Arrangements can be made for larger groups.

What type of fish are available?

Western Walleyes specialize in walleye fish. However, Lake Oahe also offers pike, small mouth bass, white bass and catfish.

Do you offer lodging?

We work with various lodging providers around Mobridge. We are happy to customize an all-inclusive guided fishing trip package that will include fishing, lodging and transportation. To discuss options contact Mike Verhulst.

Can I deduct the trip as a business expense?

As with any business related entertainment expense, a fishing trip is a form of tax-deductible entertainment. You get to deduct 50% of the cost of the trip.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept Visa, MasterCard, PayPal and checks.

 

Do you require a deposit?

Yes. A deposit of $100 per day, per person, is required at the time of booking.  Also,  at least 72 hour advanced noticed for any cancellations is required for a full deposit refund.

 

How many people can Western Walleyes accommodate?

Most frequently, trips include 2-4 people. However, we are also happy to accommodate individuals and we can accommodate large groups with advance notice.

 

What happens if the weather is bad on a fishing guide day?

If the weather is too bad for fishing, your guided trip will either be rescheduled or canceled.

The walleye is named for its pearlescent eye, which is caused by a reflective layer of pigment called the tapetum lucidum,  that helps them see and feed at night or in murky water.
